Islam provides two ways to care for the needy within the community: Zakat-ul-Fitr, and Zakat-ul-Maal. Zakat-ul-Fitr is the food that is given at the end of Ramadhaan, before the Eid prayers, and distributed to the needy within one's community. Zakat-ul-Maal is the amount donated from the wealth that has been in one's possession for one full Hijri calendar year.
